The Pinglet has started to run. She seems not to understand that she doesn't yet have the mechanics of walking down. This, of course, results in her falling over her own feet and inevitably smashing her face into whatever happens to be there. A ledge, a chair, the floor.

A few days ago, she hit her head and ended up with a bindi right between her eyes. Yesterday she fell on her face and ended up with a fat lip. Today, she hit her chin on a ledge and has a twin bindi there.

Needless to say, I won't be taking photos any time soon.

Amazingly enough, these incidents all happened away from our own apartment, which leads me to believe that we've done a pretty good job babyproofing our home. For the moment, at least. I'm sure when she moves onto the next stage, we'll have to actually rope off sections of the apartment.

She moves around pretty easily in 甚平 (jinbei). They're traditional, Japanese summer clothes...really light and comfortable. They serve multi purposes:

(1) They keep her cool in the summer, thereby cutting down on the amount that she sweats dramatically;

(2) They don't trip her up and help keep her face clear of cuts and scrapes; and

(3) They let people know that she is indeed a little girl, even though some older people in my area feel the need to argue with me that she is a boy, even after I've told them otherwise. And sometimes even when she's in a dress.

Why walk when you can run? Look out world...the next Flo-Jo is here!
