Homeowners, unite!

Hmmm...I'm not sure where the time has gone. Life has been a whirlwind for the past couple of weeks because......

Drumroll......

Tatatatatatatatatatatatatatatatata.......

WE'RE BUYING A HOUSE!!!!!!!

Anyone who knows me IRL knows that I've been trying to get out of this tatami-mat hellhole apartment for ages. We've been here for 10 years, which is about 9 years and 11 months too long. Ping saw nothing wrong with this apartment--including the fact that it's along a major highway and that people on their way to and from work can check out the state of the place because the monorail runs right at the level of our veranda--because it's "Really Convenient" and close to public transport.

And then, the Pinglet arrived on the scene.

I thought that we would be out of this apartment within a month of her arrival. I figured that with the amount of her clothes/toys/food/bottles spiraling out of control (with a little help from moi), I would be the proud owner of a place where I didn't have to climb over boxes of clothes to get to the kitchen. But Ping proved to be quite resilient since the Pinglet wasn't mobile early on and we were able to (somewhat) continue with our regular lifestyles.

And then, she started crawling. And then walking. And we had to move pieces of furniture into the front room, one-by-one, until we were left with nothing to sit on in the living room and a virtual obstacle course to find our clothes in the morning.

My campaign finally ended a month ago when Ping came out of the backroom which is essentially a walk-in closet (even though it masquerades as a bedroom) and whined in my general direction, "This place is too CROWDED!"

My systematic hoarding of junk had finally worked! By the next day, Ping brought home a real estate mag and we were off. We knew what we wanted and after a few fits and jerky starts, we came across our dream home a few short minutes from our current place.

We signed the contract tonight and will be closing on the house at the end of August. Anyone up for a trip to Kyushu for a housewarming??

UPDATE: Here's a quick photo of the place!

10 of you feeling verklempt. Tawlk amongst yourselves:

AWESOME! It looks gorgeous!! I can't believe there's a house like that (with a yard even!) so close to your apartment which is in the middle of the city. Lucky you!! Huge congrats!

Congratulations!

I had to laugh at Ping's not seeing a problem with the apartment.

My DH chose an apartment on the intersection of a major highway with no communal lawn and nowhere to go but up and over a pedestrian bridge to get anywhere. Reason? Convenient by car or train. Yup, as well as traffic noise we had boom gates, too. Gotta love'em!!

Moving sucks but just think of all the extra space you'll have!
