Huser sues governments for missing falsified data
Condominium developer Huser Ltd. filed a lawsuit Monday seeking damages totaling 13.9 billion yen from 18 local governments for their alleged failure to spot fabricated quake-proofing data despite screening the building plans of its condominiums, company officials said. [Read more...]

Over the past month, there has been a major scandal in the real estate business here, where building plans that have been falsified by architects (the most famous being Aneha) and companies (see Huser above) were used to construct hotels and apartment buildings that are not quake-proof...and where people now live. There have been over 100 buildings that have been constructed by these two--Aneha and Huser--around the country, which have forced people to relocate or have forced the closure of businesses that are housed in these buildings. And now, there are a lot of angry people who are demanding compensation.

There are lots of actors involved in this particular problem...the national and local governments for one, since they are responsible for putting together this particular system of checks and balances to ensure that data is not falsified.

Um, but the fact that one of the key actors in this little drama being played is now suing...that is just laughable.

It's like saying to the police: "Well, yes, I am a serial killer but you didn't catch me, which makes you responsible for my crimes as well."

i laughed when i saw this on the news last night. *sigh* i just figured it was one more way for them (huser) to claim their innocence.
