A new way to deal with the declining birthrate in Japan...

People Staff Co. is now offering robots as staff for retirement homes or as office receptionists.

The nursing robot--Yorisoi ifbot--helps senior citizens to exercise their minds through quizzes and tests; the receptionist robot--Hello Kitty Robo (damn that Hello Kitty...she's everywhere)--greets visitors with a recorded message.

All this for a fee of 45,000 to 53,000 yen per month. Hey, that's a lot cheaper than having to have real live people in the offices who require higher salaries, health insurance, and a little job satisfaction.

Give the robots a little oil, a chip upgrade, and they're all set.

3 of you feeling verklempt. Tawlk amongst yourselves:

Ed, I'd like to get one of these too! Then I could just kick back and do nothing. :)
