Last week, I was attending a meeting in Seoul. From Fukuoka, it only takes one hour by plane; it's closer than Tokyo. It's kind of like going to Jersey on business.

In recent years, Korea has come to resemble Japan in so many different ways--food, clothing, mannerisms--that it is almost like still being in Japan, except I can't understand or read anything.

One thing that I find interesting about going to Korea is watching the American Forces Korea Network, which is a channel that broadcasts shows and news from the U.S. It's totally surreal to watch David Letterman while in a hotel in Seoul.
